Dear Members

As many of you will be aware there are massive delays with the production of Local Searches from SLDC.

On behalf of the membership we are doing all we can to get to the bottom of the problem and apply pressure on the Council to rectify the issues.

We have written to a number of local Councillors and our MP explaining the difficulties.

We have been told the following:

There has been a significant increase in demand brought on by the stamp duty holiday and this has been exacerbated by staff sickness and new members of staff that are still undergoing training.  They say this along with the backdrop of C19 has amounted to the “perfect storm”.

SLDC have now brought in additional resources from a specialist agency to assist who started last week, they have also appointed to a vacant post and we are told they are now in the post 2.5 days a week moving to 5 days a week as of 7th September.  In the immediate term this will prevent the delay exceeding the current 32-35 day turnaround.

SLDC say they are expecting to see this turnaround further reduce, over the next 4-6 weeks, as the additional resource start to make an impact.

They say “We fully recognise this is far from an ideal situation but please be assured we are taking proactive steps to manage and improve this temporary issue.”

They said they are hoping to improve matters as quickly as they can and move to a target turnaround of sub 10 days.

We will continue to apply pressure on behalf of the membership if the situation does not improve.

From your WLS Committee
