As Treasurer of the Westmorland Law Society, I am a member of the committee, and after speaking at our most recent CPD day, it was a good opportunity to share more about what we do and how our members can get involved.
We have around 100 members, made up of local lawyers covering essentially what was the old county of Westmorland. Our committee are really pro-active, we meet regularly, and we try to arrange as many events as we can every year; from socials, to our black tie dinners, webinars, and in-person training events. All of which are great opportunities to network and to get to know lawyers from other firms in the area.
We are lucky that we have local businesses and providers who sponsor events to keep costs low which help to promote the benefits of being a member.
There are a couple of ways to help – firstly, we’d love to have a couple more members join our committee to help us with new ideas for events and for helping to make them happen. It really helps too when the committee is made up of members from a range of firms, so if anyone is interested, please get in touch.
Secondly, we would like to hear your suggestions of what you would like Westmorland Law Society to do for you, for example, you might want more local CPD events, more socials, more support – please let us know. It is essentially what all local law societies are here for – to help and support all those working in the legal sector in our local areas and to be proud to be part of it.
