It may be only the end of summer, but it is time to share with you details of Cumbria’s Christmas shoebox campaign, covering South Cumbria, Furness and Eden.
Boxes of Hope, Cumbria is made up entirely of volunteers who give up their time to fill shoeboxes of goodies and send them to Romania and promote education.
Boxes of Hope send a (self-funded) team each year to distribute the shoebox gifts so kindly given by Cumbrian residents, and bring reports back from the children visited. Unlike other organisations Boxes of Hope have NO staff costs, so any surplus money can go straight to Romania to promote education amongst the poorest communities.
The boxes are delivered by hand to those in need and contain educational supplies such as pens and pencils, toys (such as dolls, cars and tennis balls), sweets and hygiene items such as face cloths and soap. This year Boxes of Hope are placing an emphasis on FUN! We all know children love toys and we’ve found that toy cars in particular bring so much joy to the children we meet.

The campaign runs from November 1st – 12th and more information will be released on the website next month as to where you can drop off your shoebox, together with the £2 donation for transport costs.
